Geometry
Parents: Your child will be utilizing educational math iPad apps as well as hands on math center activities, games and videos to practice the skills that they have learned in class along with completing formative and summative math assessments. Formative math assessments such as in class math activities, worksheets, or quizzes help me monitor your child's progress. The summative assessment will be a math exam or test. Students are evaluated and their grade or score is compared to Nebraska state math standards and or math benchmarks. It is essential that your child practices and studies different geometry problems and learns about shapes, angles, etc. The more your child looks learns about geometry the more comfortable they will be solving geometry problems. On this page I have listed and included fun and educational geometry iPad apps, games and activities that parents and children can do together.
Have fun,
Ms. DiPaolo
Students: Here are some fun games, videos and things to do that will help you learn more about geometry!
Geometry iPad Apps:
These are my favorite iPad games that will help you learn more about geometry!
1. Grade 1 Lite: This app is super fun! You will be learning all about the different shapes and how many sides each shape has. Every time you answer the question right, you get a coin! Once you get ten coins you win a prize! Look at the picture below to see what the Grade 1 Lite app looks like!
Grade 1 Lite meets these Nebraska State Standards:
MA 1.3 Geometry: Students will communicate geometric concepts and measurement concepts using multiple representations to reason, solve problems and make connections within mathematics and across disciplines.
MA 1.3.1 Characteristics: Students will identify and describe geometric characteristics and create two and three dimensional shapes.
MA.1.3.1.a: Determine defining and non defining attributes of two dimensional shapes; build and draw shapes that match the given definition.
2. Grade 1 Math: This was probably my favorite geometry iPad app! You will match the different shapes, talk about 2D and 3D shapes, learn about how many sides each shape has and more! You also earn coins and can unlock new zoo animals the more you play! Looks at the picture below to see what the Grade 1 Lite app looks like!

Parents and Students
Here is a fun activity that you can try together!
Geometry with Toothpicks
Materials that you will need:
Toothpicks
This activity is super fun and easy! All you need is a handful of toothpicks. Ask your child to show you various shapes such as a square, a trapezoid, a rectangle, etc. Students will show you different shapes using toothpicks. You can also talk about how many vertices and sides each shape has.
