Numeration/ Number Sense
Parents: Your child will be utilizing educational math iPad apps as well as hands on math center activities, games and videos to practice the skills that they have learned in class along with completing formative and summative math assessments. Formative math assessments such as in class math activities, worksheets, or quizzes help me monitor your child's progress. The summative assessment will be a math exam or test. Students are evaluated and their grade or score is compared to Nebraska state math standards and or math benchmarks. It is essential that your child practices and studies numeration and number sense. The more your child looks at numeration/number sense, the more comfortable they will be solving numeration and number sense problems. On this page I have listed and included fun and educational numeration and number sense iPad apps, games and activities that parents and children can do together.
Have fun,
Ms. DiPaolo
Students: Here are some fun games, videos and things to do that will help you learn more about numbers and counting to 120!
Numeration iPad Apps:
These are my favorite iPad games that will help you learn more about numbers and counting to 120!
1. Grade 1 Lite: This iPad app lets you play fun games where you get to count by tens, ones and fives. You will be practicing counting to 120. After you get ten questions right, you get a surprise! Look at the picture below to see what the Grade 1 Lite app looks like!
Grade 1 Lite meets these Nebraska State Standards:
MA 1.1 Number: Students will communicate number sense concepts using multiple representations to reason, solve problems, and make connections within mathematics and across disciplines.
MA 1.1.2 Operations: Students will demonstrate the meaning of addition and subtraction with whole numbers and compute accurately.
MA.1.1.2.c: Find the difference between two numbers that are multiples of 10, ranging from 10-90 using concrete models, drawings or strategies, and write the corresponding equation (e.g., 90-70=20).
2. Quick Math Jr: I really like this iPad app because you get to create your own monster and play fun counting games with your monster. The more questions you answer, the more monsters you get! You will be practicing counting to 120. Look at the picture below to see what the Quick Math Jr app looks like!

Parents and Students
Here are some fun activities that you can try together!
Who Am I? with the 120 Chart
Materials that you will need:
120 chart
Stickers
You can create your own 120 chart (pictures are below). Parents can stick fun stickers on or near different numbers. Parents and students will sit down together with the 120 chart. Parents are to ask their child where each sticker or character is such as " who is on number 4"? You can ask your child the questions out loud. I will provide the "Who Am I?" worksheet in class.
Race to Fill Your 120 Chart
Materials that you will need:
120 chart or graphing paper
Parents can create 120 cubes or blocks on graphing paper. You and your child are going to work together to fill out the 120 chart. Remember, this is a race! Try to go as fast as you can! Someone starts first writing the number 1, then the other person goes writing the number 2 and so on. It is a super fun game that you and your child will love!
Who Am I? with the 120 Chart and Race to Fill Your 120 Chart meets these Nebraska State Standards:
MA 1.1 Number: Students will communicate number sense concepts using multiple representations to reason, solve problems, and make connections within mathematics and across disciplines.
MA.1.1.1 Numeric Relationships: Students will demonstrate, represent and show relationships among whole numbers within the base ten number system.
MA.1.1.1.a: Count to 120 by ones and tens, starting at any given number.
MA.1.1.1b: Read and write numerals within the range of 0-120.
